I made this site-specific installation with O-rings provided by Freudenberg. These materials are usually hidden inside automotive components. In this work, I let them take center stage by creating aesthetically pleasing geometric shapes, without color alterations.
The process of connecting the O-rings with fishing line was manual, labor-intensive, and meditative. Totally immersed in the repetitive operations, I lost track of time and myself like a child playing with Legos. I like this playful state of mind because it allows me to roam and explore with curiosity.
The radial symmetry in this work conjures up patterns in nature. The doily-like configurations resemble some of the sea creatures illustrated in Kunstformen der Natur (Art Forms of Nature) by Ernst Haeckel (1834 - 1919). They also look like flowers, offering proof that industrial materials can be beautiful.
